1 Million Digits of Pi

by Hermann Zschiegner

On October 17, 2011, Shigeru Kondo concluded 371 days of computing 10,000,000,000,000 decimal places of π. Roughly 44TB of disk space were needed to perform the computation, and 7.6TB of disk space was needed to store the compressed output of decimal and hexadecimal digits.
This print is based on the interactive version (http://www.4000000pi.com) and shows the first 1 million digits, with each digit represented by a color-coded pixel.
